    What’s on in August on Anna Maria Island

    Anna Maria Island is a great place to visit, especially so in the summer months where there are a lot of events and activities happening – plus it’s the perfect time to enjoy the warm weather!

    Here we outline for you some of the top things that are happening this month to help you plan your visit.

    Sarasota Jungle Gardens

    All summer long, you can enjoy the unique exhibits and wildlife shows at Sarasota Jungle Gardens.
    This ten acre tropical attraction is home to more than 150 native and exotic animals including primates, parrots, macaws, iguanas, alligators, and much more. Be sure to check out their new Flamingo Cam on their website when you book your tickets!

    Sarasota Jungle Gardens
    Adult tickets are $15.99, tickets for children ages four through sixteen are $10.99, and children three and under are admitted for free. Check out their website for what other Anna Maria wildlife you will be able to see: http://www.sarasotajunglegardens.com/.

    Florida Railroad Museum

    Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 2pm, kids ride free all summer (with paying adult) at the Florida Railroad Museum. Enjoy a 90-minute excursion on historic rail equipment in the parrish area while learning about the history of trains in Florida and admiring the local flora and fauna.

    Adults $14.00, Children free with paying adult.

    Art After 5 At The Ringling

    Every Thursday evening from 5pm to 8pm, The Ringling (Florida’s State Art Museum) offers discounted tickets for admission to their entire grounds. This includes not just the Museum of Art and the Circus Museum, but also the stunning Bayfront Gardens which are always a great place to look for local Anna Maria wildlife.

    Adults $10.00, Children $5.00.

    Mixon’s Antiques, Arts, and Crafts Fair

    On Saturday, August 23rd from 9am to 3pm, visit longtime Florida standby Mixon’s Fruit Farm for a charming, old-fashioned festival. See local artists and collectors, shop for local produce and enjoy a leisurely tram tour throughout the property that finishes at the Mixon Wildlife Rescue Preserve.

    Big Cat Habitat

    Big Cat Habitat is a non-profit safe haven for big cats (like lions and tigers), bears, and native Anna Maria wildlife. Wednesdays through to Sundays, from 12:30pm to 4pm, they will be offering demonstrations showcasing these majestic creatures.

    Mote Marine Summer Camps

    Throughout the summer, Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium is offering several exciting summer camps for school-aged kids themed around ocean life, including Extreme Survivors and Waves of Wonder.
